Leadership

The firm is led by Leopoldo André Canal Almeida, a Brazilian attorney and experienced business and tax consultant with over 19 years of professional experience advising clients across multiple industries.

Leopoldo holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Universidade Gama Filho (Brazil) and has undertaken doctoral and master’s level studies in Legal Sciences at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (Portugal), as well as a Professional Master’s Degree in Managerial and Tax Accounting from FUCAPE Business School (Brazil).

He has also undertaken specialized studies in U.S. Federal Taxation and U.S. Taxation of International Transactions through the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, as well as in international taxation, including Taxation of Multinationals for Everyone at Leiden University, in addition to advanced studies in Brazilian Tax Law at Fundação Getúlio Vargas.

Professional Background

Leopoldo is a partner at Canal Advogados, a law firm based in Rio de Janeiro, and Prime Contabilidade, a full-service accounting firm serving clients across a wide range of industries.

Throughout his career, he has held relevant public positions in Brazil, including serving as an advisor to the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro—one of the largest states in Brazil in terms of GDP and population—as well as a parliamentary advisor. He was also elected Alternate State Representative (2018–2022).
